Making the Most of a Pandemic

My Favorite Memories Captured (With Masks On)

All the theme parks are lifting mask mandates and now feel more like they did at the end of 2019. I wanted to take a moment to mark what will hopefully be the beginning of the end of this historically significant time in our lives with this post that reflects on how we were still able to have joyful, magical moments (even with masks on).

Personal Reflections as a Documentarian

Of course there were many family moments I made over the last twelve months that didn’t require masks or social distancing. At first glance, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell from the image alone that there was a global pandemic going on at that very moment. And, that’s the reason I’m not going to share them in this post.

As parents, we created bubbles as big or as thick as we needed to in order to limit the impact to our families and get through the last year with our sanity. For our family, mask compliance wasn’t a problem along with the other mandates, and we were grateful that the parks opened responsibly when they did.

My business was put on the back-burner not only to allow my attention to be on the boys, but also because there wasn’t a high demand for my style of photography. Thinking back now, it’s really sad that people hesitated making the photography investment because they felt it wouldn’t be worth it if peoples’ faces were covered.

Are we that programmed that a worthy picture requires a smile at the camera that we can’t see the value in documenting the ways we made it through this historic time?

Was it stressful? Yes. Were the restrictions and mandates less than ideal? Of course. But, were we still able to produce moments of awe, fun, laughter, togetherness, and magic? Absolutely….and what you see above is proof.

Now that restrictions are lifting, are you planning a day trip or vacation to Central Florida? If so, I would love to speak with you about your plans. There are so many possibilities for documenting and sharing this trip in a very special way. Click the button to learn more about my vacation storytelling packages.
