It has been my pleasure to document the Melton Family from their wedding day. Elle was the winner of my Winter Garden Scavenger Hunt last fall. She knew she wanted to use her gift card to capture the celebration of their little one turning one year old at the beach. We put a tentative date on the calendar and hoped the weather would cooperate.

Session Details

It ended up being a gorgeous day for the beach and the first really warm day of the year! Both Elle and Nick hold important service jobs- Elle is a neonatal nurse and Nick is a paramedic. We worked around two schedules that included third shift work.

We started the session in bright mid-morning light which can scare away some photographers, but it was the right time of day for Luka. He started to play as he normally does when they arrive at the beach. He had a new Little Tikes car that Elle converted to a cute beach cruiser, and was super excited to ride it. He must have gone in and out of it 20 times, each time carefully opening and closing the door. It was so cute!

About 15 minutes later he was up for capturing some family pictures. About 10 minutes was all we needed for that, and then it was on to smashing into a cake Elle made. Luka preferred the cake with a little bit of salt and sand. Such a defined palate!

All-in-all, the session went about 90 minutes. It included all the great beach moments one would expect: sandy bums, seagulls chasing food, sea salt breezes, and the chill of dipping your toes in February ocean water.
