This Is Reportage Family Awards

2020 has been quite the year. I am counting down the days until we celebrate a new year.

That said, I kicked off the month of October with some exciting news: I’m an award winner in the documentary family photography genre!

The competition was with the international documentary family photography community known as This Is Reportage Family. Of the nearly 4400 submitted, around 5% were awarded. To be recognized with multiple awards in the same cycle is truly an honor.

The three selected images all have the (unintended) theme of magic in motion. They highlight the different ways I like to capture movement. It’s a skill that takes practice and conscious effort in the moment. The photographer might only get a few seconds to decide how to capture the feeling of the movement. Selecting one method over the other could be the difference between award-winner versus a failed image.
